Weekend Review – It’s Getting Cold!

It is cold outside. This week winter said to the season, “I’m gonna come quick!” and I believe it! We started getting lows in the 30’s this week and I know that it is all down hill from here. Nothing but cold weather ahead so make sure you are prepared with enough coffee, blankets, sweatshirts, and a good movie. Oh, and don’t forget chocolate chip cookies, you have to have those if you’re going to bundle up.
I hope those of you that checked in during the week enjoyed the articles as much as we enjoyed writing them. Great stuff and different stuff. You never know what we are going to write about, or what we think is relevant for you, that’s why we have the “On Tap For This Week” article every Sunday. BUT, don’t forget that since you are one of our readers we want to hear from you! What are we not talking about that you would like to know more about? Let us know and we will see what we can do for you!
Alright, enough of me writing for the sake of loving to do so. Grab a cup of coffee and blanket, turn down the heat, and enjoy our weekend review!
Each month you are going to look back at the last month and find something somewhere that you could have done differently. The practice gives you the eye to find these things and the knowledge of what to do with them! Without practicing you will not give yourself opportunity fall, and without falling you will not pick yourself back up and LEARN!
Redefine The American Dream Pt 2 – Cars
I will tell you the truth about the guy driving the BMW, he has car payments. Why? Because “it’s just a part of life.” He has car payments that he can’t afford, has an unhappy wife, his kids hate him, he can’t afford the house he is living in, he is not happy in his high paying job, and he does not have any money in his savings account. How do I know this? Because all of this is the supposed “American Dream” and the nice car is part of it. The new car is a status symbol that feeds egos and are justified by greedy car salesmen.
In traditional budget software you are required to look back at what you did wrong that made you go over your budget, and make your change from there. With Rudder you are looking forward and know exactly how much money you have available after pay days, after bills are paid, and after credit card statements are paid, which keeps you ahead of your money.
Have a “costume swap” with your friends and family, especially if you all have little ones. Get together one evening and everyone brings in the costumes that their children have worn previous years but don’t fit in anymore. Everyone has a chance to pick from the costumes and hopefully will be able to find a perfect fit for their little one with spending no money at all.
I have tried to write a novel in the past, I failed miserably, but I tried. The two reasons I have not picked that manuscript up since I stopped are 1) no encouragement to do so and 2) no deadline to finish it. The idea behind NaNoWriMo are exactly those two things. The community behind and involved in this challenge encourage one another to write 50,000 words and to do so within 30 days (the deadline aspect). I just stumbled upon this website on Wednesday of this week (the challenge begins Tomorrow, November 1st) and cannot wait to start…
In other news…
Surround Yourself with Positive People appeared as an editor’s pick at Free From Broke, who hosted the Money Hacks Carnival #36. “Thanks for hosting!”
Another week is in the books! Have a great weekend and stay warm!
